Mayor Eric Adams Visits Harlem Zen owned by Angela McTair By Pat Stevenson

Earlier this year,, Mayor Adams visited Harlem Zen and met with Angela McTair,  a loan recipient of his administration’s Small Business Opportunity Fund. The fund is a public-private partnership launched in 2023 and has loaned more than $85 million to over 1,000 businesses, the majority of which have been owned by people of color.
The mayor toured the facility on Frederick Douglass Blvd between 136th and 135th Street. During his visit, Angela performed a laser hair removal procedure, which she said was designed to permanently remove hair after several treatments.
McTair stated, “The loan assisted us in upgrading this space and helped us to purchase some of the expensive equipment we need to perform some of the laser procedures.”
Adams said, “I like to take the time to go into the community and see where the money is going and speak to the owners directly when I can.”
When asked why she chose this business, McTair stated she faced the struggles of chronic, confidence-shattering acne well into adulthood. As a scientist, she knew achieving balanced, healthy skin was possible, so she began testing countless products. Frustrated by formulas filled with irritating ingredients that only made things worse, Angela decided to take matters into her own hands.
After years of rigorous study, earning her aesthetics license, and obtaining certifications in chemical peeling, microdermabrasion, laser treatments, and manual lymphatic drainage, Angela founded Harlem Zen. With a blend of nature and cutting-edge technology, Harlem Zen offers cold-pressed organic products, inflammation-reducing formulas, and advanced laser treatments to soothe and transform the skin.
