Esplanade Gardens Health and Wellness Committee Conducts Seminars

Categories: Articles,

Esplanade Gardens Health & Wellness Committee successfully conducted its first seminar- “Uncontrollable Blood Pressure & Anxiety,” on June 6, 2024, at 129-133 West 147 Street, NYC, in their North Community Room.  The committee’s mission is to empower senior residents by equipping them with health seminars and services.  This knowledge will significantly enhance their understanding of the complex New York City health system, empowering them to make informed health decisions.
Columbia University’s In Touch Program performed blood pressure screenings before the seminar began, and Harlem Health Initiative, CUNY, spearheaded a session on their Stress Study.
Dr. Patrick Fratellone, a well-known Cardiologist and naturopath who worked with two outstanding naturopaths, Dr. Richard Ash and Dr. John Atkinson, shared tips on how to control the “Silent Killer.”
Dr. Srividhya Sharma, a Mental Health Specialist from Harlem Health Initiative, CUNY, addressed the anxiety portion of the topic.
Thus far, the committee has implemented the “Wellness Walk” on the grounds to encourage exercise in a comfortable environment.  They soon hope to start the “Friendly Caller” initiative, which deals with seniors living in isolation.
The committee would not have been able to accomplish its mission without the help of many volunteers and supporters such as Chef David of Jacobs Restaurant; N.Y. Sports Club; Esplanade Gardens Management and Board of Directors; Dr. Deborah Levine, Dir.  Harlem Health Initiative, CUNY; Columbia University’s In Touch Program; Dominic Boyce, Harlem Hospital Administrator; Dr. Marie Wilson, Gotham Care; Councilman Yusef Salaam; State Senator Cordell Cleare, and Assemblyman Al Taylor.
