I continue to be inspired to continue this work. Throughout the years, I have received several proclamations and awards for media excellence and community service. In 2021, ABC did a tribute on me during Women’s History Month – you can see that video clip on our website (www.harlemcommunitynews.com). During my 20th Anniversary, twelve of my colleagues, family, and friends put together a celebration for me at Alhambra Ballroom, and we had more than 200 guests. Last year, I received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” plaque signed by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Later this month, on September 21st, I will be honored by the Mid-Manhattan NAACP.
I have a lot to be thankful for. I am now nine years cancer-free from triple-negative breast cancer treatment. I now use a cane after being in a wheelchair and using a walker for more than a year as I have chronic arthritis. We have survived 9/11, Katrina, the Recession, and COVID. The past 18 months have been our worst time for business since the budgets of the New York City agencies were cut to accommodate the crisis we experienced in New York handling the immigration situation. The Mayor seems to have a handle on that now, and New York City marketing budgets have returned. We are hopeful we will have someone in the White House in 2025 who will make life better for all of us.
This September 5th issue is the kick-off of our 30th Anniversary editorial and events that will continue every month until December. Therefore, if you missed our deadline of August 29th for this issue, you have time to join us in our 30th Anniversary editorial planned for October, November, and December.
Thank you to all the local businesses and organizations who have supported me and allowed us to promote them for the past 30 years. Thank you to the companies and organizations who have sent us congratulations ads, contributions, and advertising in general for this 30th-anniversary issue. Thank you, GOD, and give me the strength to continue this divine journey.
